WE ARE US ?
The project tarted in 2015 by Coco who was teaching under a tree around 18 students in Nungwi Village. In 2016, we moved to a big building provided by the family Schlott from Germany.
Thank to son Andre Schlott, who manages social media for the school and Cristina Pascual who lived in Zanzibar from 2018 to 2019 and manages the volunteers program, internal communication and free time activities for volunteers, the school has received a big number of volunteers from all over the world.....
Slowly but with the collaboration of everyone we have grown up. Some milestones : We built one more class room, a medical room, a 20001 tank of water, electricity and provide one cup of Porridge for our kids everyday. Happiness of sharing : This is not all, we are happy to collaborate with 3 different schools in Zanzibar : Umbuji, Kibele and Guruweni nursery school. You will visit them durng your stay with us...
MAONO FOUNDATION
This foundation has been established for supporting the Nungwi village and others where there is big number of kids and teenages suffering from lack of opportunities. Actually the big mistake had been done by central Government for opening tourism industrial without good preparation such as : Educate its people for having professional and awareness on the issue.
At result the opportunities are being occupied by foreigners from kenyan and even others people from Tanzania. Mr Coco and his friend Mr James Orimos from Uganda brought the ideas of establishing the projects which could be solutions of sorting out the hard situation facing the kids and teenages in Nungwi and others village. Maono foundation established to supervise the projects.
Zanzibar school of hope
Zanzibar school of hope is a nursery school located in Nungwi. Nowadays, we have 2019 kids from 3-7 years old. These kids belong to poor families who can’t afford the payment to go to the government school.
Teaching is free for the children in exchange for a small donation from their parets.
The school is being managed by coco, a local family man, with the help of 8 teachers- also locals-who teach different classes like Swahilo, maths, English… Receiving a monthly salary of around 50 dollards.
The schedule of the school is from 8:00 a.m to 12:00 a.m. We make a break at 10:00 a.m to give the kids the “porridge” ( tradicianal cream made with milk & flour)
This is a small project without funds and governmental support but thanks to help from our volunteers we are improving our school and the system of teaching.
